This interesting looking sapsucker is a hybrid between Red-naped and Red-breasted, with more of it pedigree being Red-breasted (in my opinion). This bird was photographed at the Pyracantha bush near the Madera Picnic Area in Madera Canyon on 27 March 2009. This is perhaps the same individual that was found and photographed more than a month earlier at the Pyracantha bush at the Madera Kubo.
