Green Kingfisher

29 November 2008 - Sonoita Creek State Natural Area

This female Green Kingfisher was found along Sonoita Creek below Lake Patagonia on November 29, 2008. The bird was hunting in a sluggish bush-lined side channel of the main creek channel.

Green Kingfishers are rare and local in southeast Arizona, usually found only along Sonoita & Arivaca Creeks, the upper San Pedro River and the San Cruz River north to Tumacacori.
