Brown-backed Solitaire
Myadestes occidentalis

Brown-backed Soliaire This individual, if accepted by the Arizona Bird Committee, will constitute the first U.S. record. It was found by Dave Jasper and the young birders with Camp Chiricahua youth birding group in Miller Canyon on 16 July 2009. The bird was refound in Ramsey Canyon on the 18th where it was heard and seen through at least 1 August. I was fortunate to be guiding in Miller Canyon when the kids came down after their discovery. My client and I quickly hiked up to the reported spot (with several other birders). I was the only one that got a good look to this bird fly up to an exposed perch for a split second. My client saw the flash of the bird leaving and several days later got excellent views in Ramsey. After my brief view on the 16th, I tried several times until I got to photograph it on 30 July in Ramsey Canyon.
